The Bicentenary Concert

The Bicentenary Tribute Concert was given by the Tunde Jegede Ensemble at Falmouth Parish Church in 1999 to mark Joseph Emidy's arrival in Falmouth, Cornwall two hundred years earlier in 1799. The Tunde Jegede Ensemble performed a concert of chamber music, which drew influences from Western and African Classical Music with a line-up that included Flute, Kora (West African Harp-Lute), Percussion and String Quartet.

It was apt that the occasion took place at Falmouth Parish Church as this was the very building where Joseph Emidy got married in 1802 and where the only surviving record of his signature remains. The evening was opened with an introductory talk on 'The life and times of Joseph Antonio Emidy' given by Dr. Richard McGrady.
